Dependable on-site tech-support services at your convenience

No need for you to disconnect your computer and bring it somewhere across town (or across the Bridge!) for service. No need for you to leave your home or small office to take a "course" to learn fundamental computer skills or basic software applications. We come to you!

"My desire is to equip you with the necessary knowledge and tools that will
enable you to use your computer effectively, efficiently, and enjoyably."

Hardware - Recommend, Install, & Configure

Have questions about whether or not you should upgrade? Don't have time to read every Consumer Report pertaining to every possible product? I've shopped around a lot over my course - I'll tell you all my secrets.
Is your computer several years old? Is it slow to boot up? Are you running out of storage space? I'll examine your old computer and explain how you can improve its performance. More often than not, if you replace a few key components your older computer can be upgraded to "state of the art" for much less than the cost of a new computer.
Even if your system is fairly new, you may need a few enhancements to accommodate your growing collection of digital photos, movies, or music files. Having trouble getting that new printer, scanner, DSL modem, or CD-RW to work? I'll fine tune your new add-on for top performance.

Network Setup

If you have two or more PCs in your home, have you considered networking them? A network allows your computers to share files, a printer, and an Internet connection. A wireless network is the cutting-edge way to connect all of the computers in your home. Wireless networks are perfect for people who want to connect laptop and desktop computers but don't like to be tied down or trip over unsightly cables.

Internet Setup

Having trouble connecting to the internet or setting up your email program? Confused by all the brou-ha-ha over security settings, virus and adware protection, firewalls, and the rest? I'll help set you up and give you the lowdown skinny version to get you up and going.

Firewalls & Internet Security

How secure is your computer? As Internet usage has grown, so have security threats. One way to protect yourself is to install a firewall, which keeps intruders from sneaking into your computer and accessing your private data. Firewalls also can alert you when spyware programs attempt to transmit your sensitive information over the Internet. In particular, firewalls are crucial if you have the always-on Internet connection of DSL or a cable modem.

Virus/Spyware - Detect, Remove, & Prevent

Does it seem like you've got ghosts inside your computer? It could be a virus. No matter what kind of PC you have, you need the latest antivirus software. Not only do antivirus programs protect your computer from damage, but they also prevent you from accidentally passing viruses to family and friends when you send e-mails or share files. There are free programs available on the internet that can rid your computer of unwelcome vermin and protect it from future infections.
(see the
Tips & Tutorials page for links to those programs)

Software - Recommend, Install, & Configure

Time to upgrade Windows? If you have Windows 95, definitely. If you have Win 98, probably. Win/ME? Maybe, maybe not. XP? Probably not. Win 2000? Not. If you'd like I can install it for you, or I can talk you through it over the phone.
Need assistance setting up or untangling knots in your Quicken or QuickBooks program? Overwhelmed by all those bells and whistles that come with your word processing, spreadsheet, or database program? Thinking of getting one but not sure which application would fit your bill? Got a hobby or a project that you suspect your computer might help with, but aren't sure how?

Data Backup & Recovery

How often do you backup your PC? If it were suddenly damaged or stolen, would you lose valuable data? Backup solutions come in various sizes and shapes, from installing a rewritable DVD burner or an external hard drive, to simple programs that copy your important files to an archive folder. We also offer data-recovery services that can try to recover lost files resulting from hardware malfunctions, software conflicts, or viruses.

Personalized Instruction

Have you ever purchased a software program, only to find out you have no idea how to use it? Unfortunately it's not always possible to take a class that fits your schedule and your budget. Consider a short crash course on the topic. Nothing beats personalized instruction. I'm always delighted to share my knowledge and appreciation of computers.

Learn how to...

    do Windows
    use the internet
    send and read emails
use that new (or old!) program you bought
    back-up important files
"burn" a photo, video or music CD
transfer your digital photos to your computer
